Why our Soap does not Suds

Dew of Nature Soap

This post aims to answer the inquiry and questions of our customers why our soap does not suds much.

Okay, to dispel concerns and worries why there's no enough bubbles and foam released in our soap, here's the truth---WE NEVER USE A CHEMICAL FOAM OR BUBBLE ENHANCER IN OUR PRODUCT, this makes our soap bars highly different from other organic and commercial soaps in the market.

Remember, having a bubbly or foamy soap doesn't mean a high quality bar that thoroughly cleanse the skin, sometimes it can be damaging, as a foamy soap has already a chemical bubble enhancer called Sodium Laureath Sulfate or SLS, a very harsh chemical ingredient that presents in all bath products, it contributes to skin drying, roughness and darkening.

Most users of our soap were disappointed to find out that the bar never suds (foam, lather). Organic soaps that are made from 100% natural ingredients and with more conditioning and moisturising components like Shea butter, Jojoba oil and Olive oil, do not release bubbles or foam much.

Other organic soap manufacturers decided to put additional foam enhancer like Sodium Laureate Sulfate  to their products in order to come up with a soap that releases bubbles and foams but this is a very harsh chemical because it will strip off the natural moisture of the skin and can be very drying so we decided not to mix this in our batch of soap.

When I made some research on the balanced combinations of my handmade soap, I run the oils in a soap calculator online to find out the characteristics of our products and here's what I came up with the ingredients that composed of the following:

Ingredients    Percentage   Description    Characteristic

Olive Oil           40%              Soft oil            Deep conditioning, Skin softener
Coconut oil       25%              Hard oil           Soap hardening
Palm Oil            29%              Hard oil          Soap hardening
Shea butter          6%              Soft oil           Deep conditioning, Skin moisturiser

Through the above combinations of the percentage of oils, our soap has the following characteristics

Lather, Foam  - Low
Cleansing        - Very good
Moisturising   - Excellent

Therefore, our soap doesn't lather much nor release bubbles during bath but has a very good ability to cleanse and moisturise the skin thoroughly without a greasy feeling and has an excellent ability to lighten and condition the skin naturally.

In fact these characteristics of a soap are the most ideal as it protects the skin from irritation, dryness and darkening. This is also an excellent bar for baby's sensitive skin and those who want to have a silkier and smoother skin as it delivers an effective conditioning and moisturising action on the skin compared to soap bars that release too much bubbles and foam.

Our Carrots and Shea soap contains the following composition:

Ingredients                    Percentage Used
Olive Oil                            40%
Coconut Oil                       29%
Palm Oil                            25%
Unrefined Shea butter          6%
Fresh Milk                         40% of the liquid requirements
Carrot Puree                      60% of the liquid requirements
Lemon Juice                         1 teaspoon
Chamomile Essential Oil        2% of the total weights of ingredients

Milk and Shea soap contains the following composition:

Ingredients                    Percentage Used
Olive Oil                            40%
Coconut Oil                       29%
Palm Oil                            25%
Unrefined Shea butter          6%
Fresh Milk                        100% of the liquid requirements
Pure Wild Honey                 1 cup thinned in warm distilled water
Ground Oatmeal                  1/4 cup
Chamomile Essential Oil       2% of the total weights of ingredients

So, never wonder if our soap would not give you suds (and very soft), it's just happen that it is made from the purest and finest natural ingredients without any additional chemical foam and bubble enhancers. We want to provide our customers with excellent bath products that truly protect the skin from further drying and darkening.

Our Natural Ingredients

These are our available soaps as of March 6, 2012. Made from the finest ingredients of nature. Food nourishment for your skin. Ingredients are well-researched to come up with a balanced combination that will target a specific skin problem.

Basically, we are using only the best natural ingredients from nature. In fact, most of the primary ingredients we used in our Dew of Nature products can be found in the nutritious foods we are eating, thus, our soaps can be considered a food nourishment products for your skin.

The four basic OILS we used:

Olive Oil - Contributes to soap hardness. It is a soft oil that keeps your skin moisturise and smooth. It is very rich in linoleic acid which is responsible for the suppleness and softness of the skin texture. It conditions the skin and keep it more radiant and glowing. All organic soaps used composed mostly of olive oil. Soap makers used two kinds of olive oil: Pomace and pure olive oil. Virgin Olive Oil does not make a high quality soap because it is prone to rancid. In Dew of Nature, we are using pure olive oil because it makes the skin silky and smooth and does not leave a greasy feeling.

Coconut/Virgin Coconut Oil - Contributes to soap hardness and good lather, however it makes the skin very dry when a large portion of the oils are made up of coconut oil. It is very rich in lauric acid, a kind of milk usually found in baby's milk, thus coconut oil is very good for the skin. It conditions and moisturises the skin. Coconut oil also resists the early rancidity of the soap.

Palm Oil - Together with olive oil and coconut oil, palm oil comprises the three basic oil ingredients of soap making. Palm oil contributes to the soap's hardness and stable lather. It conditions the skin and contributes to a quicker trace. Palm oil has no trans-fats just like coconut and olive oils.

Shea Butter - Contributes to soap hardness and stable lather. Shea butter is an excellent remedy for dry and rough skin. It is one of the best natural skincare regimens in the world. It heals scars, burns, dark spots, blemishes and stretch marks naturally. It also protects skin from pimple, acne and premature wrinkles. It contains powerful antioxidants like vitamins A and E which fights free radicals and environmental pollution, the primary causes of premature aging. It has a natural occurring sunscreen substance that protects the skin from harmful UV rays. Shea butter makes the skin texture very soft, radiant, glowing, smooth, silky feel, and young-looking. Grapeseed Oil - Basically, grapeseed is a powerful antioxidant which minimizes varicose veins and wrinkles. It absorbs into the skin quickly without leaving a heavy greasy feeling. It is very useful in treating acne, skin blemishes and other skin problems.

Antioxidants:
Commercial soaps used Parabens as preservatives because it increases the shelf life of the soap up to five years but Parabens have been the subject of recent research studies that can cause cancer because it imitates the cancer growth cells in the body, thus using it as preservatives is highly dangerous.

All organic soaps are paraben-free because handcrafted soap makers used only natural preservatives such as Rosemary Extract, Vitamin E and Grapefruit Seed Oil. In our products, we are using vitamin E because it is more gentle to the skin and contributes to skin elasticity and suppleness. It also makes the skin glowing and radiant and even lighter.

Fragrance:
To avoid allergies and severe skin irritation to chemically-formulated fragrances, we are using only the natural fragrance for our soap which comes from fruits and flowers. We are using Jasmine and Lavender essential oils to produce a natural fragrance.

We will feature additional ingredients we used later as we produce another batch of soap.
